Brescia University announces three new ways to pursue theology studies

Brescia University is pleased to announce the addition of three new pathways for students to advance their academic engagement in the Theology field of study. In addition to a B.A. Degree with a Major in Theology and a B.A. Degree with a Major in Theology with an Emphasis in Pastoral Studies already offered, Brescia now offers a Pre-Baccalaureate Certificate in Theology, an Associate of Arts Degree in Theology, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Theology.
These new Brescia initiatives ensure that individuals can enter a Theology program with any educational background and advance their academic training. The purpose of these programs is to prepare students who wish to serve the Church in catechetical and/or lay ministerial roles in the Church, to provide continuing education for students who may already be serving the Church, and to cultivate the personal, spiritual, theological, pastoral, and professional qualities needed for effective Christian ministry in an ever-evolving world.
These endeavors embrace Brescia’s mission: “Brescia University is a Catholic, liberal arts institution founded in the Ursuline tradition of personal and social transformation through education. Directed to academic and moral excellence in a student-centered environment, Brescia offers undergraduate and graduate programs that serve students who seek success through rewarding careers and service to others.” The Theology Program at Brescia University is grounded in the Roman Catholic faith tradition and reflects the Second Vatican Council’s commitments to ecumenism, religious liberty, a deeper study of the wellsprings of the sources of the Catholic tradition, and a reaffirmation of traditional religious vocations. It supports the Council’s emphasis on lay ecclesial ministry. Finally, the programs embody Brescia’s commitment to students: “empowering YOU today to make a difference tomorrow.”

Larry Hostetter, President of Brescia University, expresses excitement with the pathways for students to study Theology, “These new initiatives make our classes and programming, along with our experienced faculty, more accessible to those who wish to further their understanding whether for their own spiritual growth or with the intended outcome being to better serve their church community. This opportunity makes sense because we are the only Catholic institution in Western Kentucky and sharing our mission and serving others is what Christ calls us to do.”
The Pre-Baccalaureate Certificate is a 15-credit program that can be completed in less than two academic years. The courses provide foundational studies in the Old Testament, the New Testament, Theology, Catechetical and Youth Ministry, and Spirituality and Vocations. Online classes will promote flexibility and access to students across the diocese.
The Associate in Arts in Theology Degree is a 60-credit hour program that can be completed in approximately two academic years.
Finally, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate is a 51-credit hour program that can be completed in approximately 4 years. This certificate is open to persons who have a baccalaureate degree and is designed to enhance personal and professional development and/or employment opportunities.
