Ursuline Sisters honored at Brescia centennial event
BY MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH STAFF
Brescia University in Owensboro kicked off its centennial year by honoring the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph with a program and reception in Duffy Auditorium on Jan. 27, 2025. Several Ursuline Sisters traveled from their motherhouse in Maple Mount for Brescia University’s 100th anniversary event that day, which happened to be the feast day of the Ursuline founder, St. Angela Merici.
The Ursulines founded the original Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women in 1925. It became a co-ed Brescia College in 1950. The school received university status in 1998.

All of the Ursuline Sisters pictured were on the Brescia faculty or staff at one time, (with the exception of Sr. George Mary), and all of them earned degrees from Brescia.
