On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, students in grades 5-8 at Mary Carrico Catholic School in Knottsville hosted a special Lenten prayer service entitled “The Trial of Jesus” at St. William Parish in Knottsville.
Written by Sr. Mary Celine Weidenbenner, OSU, who also teaches middle school religion at MCCS, the service was designed to help both students and attendees reflect deeply on the life, teachings, and crucifixion of Jesus. Presented as a dramatic reenactment, the students wore costumes and portrayed key figures from Jesus’ time on earth.
Each student researched the New Testament scripture themselves and took on a role of a witness – that is, someone who encountered Jesus and that were personally shaped by His message. The reenactment led up to His crucifixion and concluded with a powerful question posed to the audience: “Who is Jesus for you?”
