Catechist retreat draws record attendance
BY DCN. JAY W. VANHOOSIER, OFFICE OF FAITH FORMATION
From July 10-12, 35 catechists from across the Diocese of Owensboro gathered at Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, Indiana, for the 2026 Catechist Retreat, “Growing in Wisdom and Grace Throughout Life.” Led by retreat master Sr. Cheryl Clemmons, OSU, the weekend invited participants to reflect on the lifelong journey of faith and spiritual growth through inspiring presentations, guided prayer, fellowship, and personal reflection.
The retreat also offered many opportunities for worship and the sacraments, including the celebration of Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, guided prayer experiences, prayer triads, and ample time for private prayer in the peaceful setting of Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
This year’s retreat welcomed 35 participants, making it the largest-attended catechist retreat to date. The record attendance is a joyful sign that the diocese’s catechists continue to recognize the importance of spiritual renewal and ongoing formation. We are grateful to everyone who participated and look forward to building on this momentum as this annual retreat continues to grow, strengthening those who faithfully share the Gospel in our parishes and schools.
